FAQ
Questions about LinkSpot
What merchants ask before they install, then what they ask about each element.
Before you install
Do I have to edit my theme code?
No. LinkSpot works through a Shopify theme app extension. You turn the app embed on once in the theme editor, and everything you build in the app appears on your shop.
LinkSpot writes nothing into your theme files. A theme update cannot undo your work, and no code stays behind if you remove the app.
Two optional extras are the exception. A developer can copy a grid section, or a badge snippet for older themes, into your theme by hand. Those files stay until you delete them.
Will LinkSpot make my product pages slow?
No. The shop code is split per feature, so a page loads only the part it needs. A product with hotspots does not load the product set code or the collage code.
A collage is saved as one photo on the product, so the gallery loads it like your other photos. The photos inside it load only when the shopper reaches the collage.
Which themes does LinkSpot work with?
Any Online Store 2.0 theme. The extension uses the product gallery your theme already shows, and does not replace it. A custom theme usually works without changes.
If your gallery is unusual and the elements land in the wrong place, send us the shop address and we will look at it.
Does LinkSpot work on mobile?
Yes, and this is where most of the value is. Positions are saved relative to the photo, not in pixels. An element sits on the same detail when the photo is 1600px wide on a desktop and when it is 380px wide on a phone.
Hotspots and annotations can also have their own place on a phone. At the default size, a hotspot is big enough to tap with a finger.
What happens if I remove the app?
The elements stop appearing, because the theme app extension is removed with the app. Your theme and your own photos are not touched.
Collages are the one exception. LinkSpot saves each collage as a photo on its product, and that photo stays after the app is removed. Delete your collages in LinkSpot first, and they are removed from your products. You can also delete them later in Shopify, like any other photo.
LinkSpot keeps your elements and settings after you remove the app. If you install it again, you find them in the app.
How long does the setup take?
The setup guide on the dashboard has three steps and takes about a minute. You turn the app embed on, LinkSpot finds your product gallery, and you look at sample elements on one of your products. Your first product set takes a few minutes more.
Most merchants start with one product, look at their shop, and then decide how much further to go.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. The Free plan has hotspots, annotations and captions on 3 products each, 2 product sets, 2 badges and 1 button. A set, a badge or a button can show on all your products. Collages are not on the Free plan.
The Free plan adds a small Powered by LinkSpot link to the product popups. It is enough to see how the elements look on your own theme.
Paid plans start at nine dollars a month. Your shop gets one seven day free trial, on the first paid plan you choose.
Is LinkSpot a shop the look app, a hotspot app or a badge app?
All three. It also adds annotations, buttons and captions, and collages on Growth and Scale. You install one app and turn on one app embed.
What are shoppable images?
Product photos a shopper can buy from. A tap on a hotspot in the photo shows the product and its price, and the shopper can open it or add it to the cart. LinkSpot adds this to the photos in your Shopify product gallery.
Shop the look
More about shop the lookCan shoppers add the whole look to the cart at once?
Yes, from the popup. A set can open as a popup, and by default the product on the page is already selected in it. The shopper picks the other pieces, and one button adds them all to the cart. You can give each product its own add to cart button instead.
Is there a bundle discount?
No. LinkSpot does not change prices. If you want a lower price for the set, make a discount in Shopify.
Can a set fill itself?
Yes. It can show Shopify’s related products, which Shopify picks from what is often bought together, from similar descriptions and from related collections. It can also show the complementary products you set in the Search & Discovery app. If a product has no complementary products, the set shows its related products.
Does it work for a skincare routine or for accessories?
Yes. A set is any group of products that go together. The templates include Shop the look, Complete the routine, Recommended accessories and Get the kit.
How many products can one set show?
When you pick the products yourself, up to 5 on Free, 20 on Starter, 30 on Growth and 50 on Scale. A set filled with Shopify’s related or complementary products shows up to 10. In the popup, the product on the page is added on top and does not count.
Why does LinkSpot call them product sets?
Because a set can be more than a look. It can be a routine, a kit or a list of accessories. This site calls them shop the look, because that is the name merchants search for.
Shoppable hotspots
More about shoppable hotspotsHow many hotspots can one photo have?
Free allows 2 hotspots on each photo, Starter 4, Growth 8 and Scale 10. You can use hotspots on 3 products on Free, 50 on Starter, 100 on Growth and 500 on Scale.
What can a hotspot show?
A card with the product’s photo, title and price. Or a short text of up to 400 characters, with a link if you want one. Or a small tag drawn on the photo, which can show the product’s title or price.
How do I make an image clickable in Shopify?
A hotspot makes one spot of a photo clickable. It opens a card with the product, or a short text with a link to any page. Hotspots work on your product photos on every plan. On Growth and Scale, Hotspot blocks also work in other sections, where your theme accepts app blocks.
Do hotspots stay in place on a phone?
Yes. The position is saved relative to the photo, not in pixels, so the hotspot stays on the same detail at every screen size. You can also give a hotspot its own place on a phone. At the default size, hotspots are big enough to tap with a finger.
What is the difference between a hotspot and an annotation?
A hotspot is a small marker. The shopper taps it to see a product or a text. An annotation is a short note that shows on the photo all the time. It can point at a detail with a line, an arrow or a circle. LinkSpot has both.
Can I put hotspots outside the product gallery?
Yes, on Growth and Scale. In the theme editor, you can add Hotspot blocks to other sections, on any page. They work in the sections where your theme accepts app blocks, but not in the header or the footer.
Will hotspots slow my product page?
No. A page loads only the code for the elements it shows. A product with hotspots does not load the product set code or the collage code.
Lookbook collages
More about lookbook collagesWhich plans include collages?
Growth and Scale. Growth allows 100 collages and Scale 500. Free and Starter do not include collages. Growth starts with a 7 day free trial if your shop has not had a LinkSpot trial before.
Does a collage replace one of my photos?
No. The collage is added after the photo you pick, as a new slot in the gallery. Your photos stay in the gallery, in the same order.
Can shoppers buy from a collage?
Yes, on Growth and Scale. Build the grid from products, and each one can carry a hotspot that opens it. You can also add a button that opens all of them in one popup, where the shopper adds them to the cart.
Can one collage show on many products?
Not a collage you make in the LinkSpot app. It belongs to one product and sits after one of its photos. For another product, make another collage.
A Collage theme block can, on Growth and Scale. You add it in the theme editor, to a section where your theme accepts app blocks. It then shows on every page that uses that template, outside the product gallery.
Will a collage slow my product page?
No. The gallery loads the collage as one image, like your other photos. The photos inside it, and any hotspots on it, load only when the shopper reaches the collage.
What happens to a collage when I delete it?
LinkSpot removes the collage image from the product, and the gallery goes back to what it was.
Delete your collages in LinkSpot before you remove the app. A collage is saved as a photo on the product, and once the app is removed, LinkSpot can no longer remove it. You can still delete it in Shopify, like any other product photo.
Product badges
More about product badgesCan a badge show on the product page photo?
Yes. Badges sit on the photos in your product gallery. They can also show on the product cards in collection pages and search results. For that, you set up your theme once in the app’s settings, and in each badge you choose where it sits on the card.
Does LinkSpot replace my theme’s sale badge?
No. Your theme’s own badges stay as they are. LinkSpot adds its own badges on the photo, and you choose the corner for each one.
Can a badge show the discount by itself?
Yes. The badge text can hold the discount in percent or in money. LinkSpot reads it from the product’s compare-at price, so the badge changes when the price does. By default, the badge hides when there is no compare-at price.
Can a badge show only when stock is low?
Yes, on Growth and Scale. A condition on the inventory quantity shows the badge only below a number you choose, for example fewer than 5. The text can show the number too, as in “Only 3 left”. The number is the stock of all variants together.
Can a badge start and stop on a date?
Yes, on Growth and Scale. You set a start and an end, and a countdown can run inside the badge until the end.
Will badges slow my collection pages?
No. A page loads only the code for the elements it shows. A page with badges does not load the hotspot code or the collage code.
Annotations
More about annotationsHow many annotations can one photo have?
Free allows 1 annotation on each photo, Starter 3, Growth 6 and Scale 10. You can use annotations on 3 products on Free, and on up to 500 on Scale.
What is the difference between an annotation and a hotspot?
A hotspot is a small marker. The shopper taps it to see a product or a text. An annotation shows its note on the photo all the time. It can point at a detail with a line, an arrow or a circle.
Can an annotation use my own icon or image?
Yes, on Growth and Scale. You upload it once to the app’s asset library and use it as the marker of any annotation, for example one small icon for each claim.
Do annotations stay in place on a phone?
Yes. The position is saved relative to the photo, not in pixels. You can give an annotation its own place on a phone. You can also show it only on phones and tablets, or only on large screens.
Can I put annotations outside the product gallery?
Yes, on Growth and Scale. In the theme editor, you can add Annotation blocks to other sections, on any page. They work in the sections where your theme accepts app blocks, but not in the header or the footer.
Will annotations slow my product page?
No. A page loads only the code for the elements it shows. A product with annotations does not load the product set code or the collage code.
Buttons
More about buttonsWhat can a button open?
A video from YouTube or from your Shopify files, or an image such as a size guide. Both open in a popup over the page. A button can also open any link, in a new tab.
How many buttons do I get?
Free includes 1 button, Starter 50, Growth 100 and Scale 500. One button can show on every product in your shop, on every plan.
Can each product open its own video?
Yes, on Growth and Scale. One button reads an image, a video file or a link from a LinkSpot metafield, and you set that metafield on each product in Shopify. On Scale, the button can read one of your own product metafields instead, and a YouTube or Vimeo link there plays in the popup.
Where does a button sit on the photo?
In one of the four corners. It can sit on the first photo or on every photo of the product. On Growth and Scale, you can also pick other photos, such as the second or the last one, or the photos whose alt text contains a word you choose. A button can also stay on the gallery while the shopper scrolls.
How do I add a size chart to a Shopify product page?
Save the size chart as an image or as a page in Shopify. Then put a button on the product photo that opens it. The image opens in a popup over the page, and the page opens in a new tab. LinkSpot does not build the chart itself.
Will buttons slow my product page?
No. A page loads only the code for the elements it shows. A product with a button does not load the hotspot code or the annotation code. A video loads only when the shopper opens it.
Captions
More about captionsHow many captions can one photo have?
One caption on each photo, on every plan. You can use captions on 3 products on Free, 50 on Starter, 100 on Growth and 500 on Scale.
Can a caption show the model’s size?
Yes. Write the model’s height and the size they wear, for example “Model is 175 cm and wears size S”. The fit details can go in the longer note behind it. The app has a template for it.
What is the difference between a caption and an annotation?
A caption is a short text in a corner of the photo. An annotation is a note on one part of the product, and it can point at that part with a line, an arrow or a circle. One photo can have both.
Can a caption scroll?
Yes, on Growth and Scale. A ticker caption scrolls its text in a loop. You choose its width, from 25% to 100% of the photo. On a photo 400 pixels wide or less, it always takes the full width.
Can a caption match my shop’s colours?
Yes. A caption can be light, dark or in the colours you pick, in one of five sizes. You set the default once in the app’s settings, and each caption can change it.
Will captions slow my product page?
No. A page loads only the code for the elements it shows. A product with captions does not load the product set code or the collage code.
